Pranav Mistry

  • Pranav who is my inspiration, made me to have more interest in  information technological field.

 What is sixth sense
SixthSense' is a wearable gestural interface that menaugts the physical world around us with digital information and lets us use natural hand gestures to interact with that information.

Theory about sixth sense
It basically refers to the connection with something greater than what our physical senses are able to perceive. Sixth Sense will allow us to interact with the world like never before. We will be able to get information on anything we want from anywhere within a few moments.

Imagine we can make a call just by extending our hand in front of the projector and the numbers will appear to click. Want to know the time? Just draw a circle on the wrist and the watch will appear. Take a photo by Just make a square with fingers, highlighting what want to frame, and the system will make the photo —which can later organize with the others using own hands in the air.
Pranav Mistry, a PhD student in the Fluid Interfaces Group at the MIT Media Lab caused a storm with his creation of Sixth Sense. He also released this technology as open source. The Sixth Sense prototype is composed of a pocket projector, a mirror and a camera. The hardware components are coupled in a pendant-like mobile wearable device. Both the projector and the camera are connected to the mobile computing device. We can consider it as a blend of the computer and the cell phone. It works as a web cam captures and recognises an object in view and tracks the user’s hand gestures and sends the data to the smart phone. Color markers at the tip of user’s fingers helps the web cam recognizes gestures. Then the Smartphone handles the connection to the internet. The smartphone acts as a processor here. A tiny LED projector displays data sent by the smart phone on any surface in view–object, wall, or person.

It is a portable device as it can hanged around a person neck very easily thereby turning the person into a moving computer. The current prototype system costs approximate $350 to build. The true power of 6th sense lies on its potential in connecting the real life circumstances almost immediately to the internet which gives all the relevant information to the user and allows us to make smarter choices. The idea is that SixthSense tries to determine not only what someone is interacting with, but also how he or she is interacting with it.

Today, we use our devices to go to the internet and get information that we want but with Sixth Sense we will use a device no bigger than current cell phones and probably eventually as small as a button on our shirts to bring the internet to us in order to interact with our world. The device has a huge number of applications. Imagine reading a newspaper and viewing videos instead of the photos in the paper or live sports updates while reading the newspaper. The device can also tell you arrival, departure or delay time of your air plane on your tickets.

Sixth Sense will grab real time information about your flight and display it over the ticket. For book lovers it is a blessing. Open any book and you will find the Amazon ratings of the book. To add to it, pick any page and the device gives additional information on the text, comments and lot more add on features. While picking up any good at the grocery store, the Sixth Sense will show you whether the product is good or not.Currently it is in development phase.
